Cannon Minds The House And Reins In Scott Supporters

Cannon is simpatico with Haridopolos’ legislative agenda, but he’s not running for anything. Indeed, the Winter Park attorney seems content to stick close to home, with no aspirations for higher office.

“Cannon is a unique speaker in many respects. He’s been the power behind the throne for two years serving as a sort of shadow speaker,” said one longtime Republican strategist from South Florida who spoke on condition of anonymity.

European Group Gears Up Florida High-Speed Rail

Editor’s Note – One line jumps out here; ‘no public financing, such as taxpayer-backed bonds, would be requested by the consortium’.

What exactly does that mean? Surely, as you will see quoted in the story below, Florida will be on the hook to subsidize operating losses, right?

Be sure to follow the link at the bottom for much more information on this story. As usual, Kenric Ward is very thorough in his reporting, including an analysis of whether it will work for Florida.

Poll: Crist Slumping Toward Third Place In Senate Race

According to Sunshine State News’ nightly tracking poll, in the U.S. Senate race independent Charlie Crist has lost 2 percentage points since the surveys began Oct. 13. Meanwhile, Republican Marco Rubio has padded his lead by 4 points and Democrat Kendrick Meek has picked up a point.

Crist calls himself an “optimist,” but his sunny disposition is being tested as never before.

With Rubio running away with the race — he holds a 47-27 lead over Crist — the only real contest to be decided is who will finish in second place.

In the meantime, questions are percolating about Crist’s true intentions.

With the governor sitting on a reported $5.5 million and reserving an estimated $3 million in TV ad buys while running a bare-bones campaign operation, some critics suspect he may be cashing out.

Under U.S. election law, Crist would be entitled to use any leftover funds for personal use or a future run for federal office.

War On Women Can Be Fought At The Polls

By Kim Carroll

Women have the power. They take their right to vote seriously and show up at the polls in greater numbers than men according to the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University.

In 2008, 60.4 percent of eligible female voters cast their vote versus 55.7% of eligible males. According to the same study, more women are registered to vote than men, 66.6 million versus 63.5 million. Maybe that’s why the “War on Women” has taken a front seat in this election…

It’s a fair guess that Connie Mack has seen some recent polling that has gotten his attention.

As the week closed out, the rhetoric coming from the Mack campaign took on a rather fervent pitch. In a press release sent out Thursday, it made the claim that opponent George LeMieux has “endorsed raising Florida’s sales tax to a nation-leading 16 percent.”

Obama’s IPAB Death Panels Limit More Than Just Health Care Access

By L. Persona

Florida Democrats believe they can win a few Republican seats in Congress and are preparing a major offensive against several Republicans facing tough challenges this year. They believe that redistricting gives them a chance to offset the seats they are sure to give up.

However, the Democrats still fail to realize the albatross that ObamaCare places on their party’s efforts…

A Black Guy At The Dallas, TX Tea Party Rally

By Lloyd Marcus

A big well dressed black guy attended the Dallas, TX tea party rally with his white buddy. Both men missed my singing performance on stage minutes earlier.

I asked the black gentleman who had an impressive physique how often he worked out. He replied, “Everyday.” His white buddy said with a chuckle, “He thinks the Tea Party is racist.”
