Mathew Ward; Why I’m Supporting Todd Long

I want you to know why I am supporting Todd Long in the Republican primary for Congress in District 8. Todd and his wife Ninette are Christians who believe strongly in the values and government principles of our Founding Fathers and President Reagan.

Todd is the only candidate in the race who stood up to the failed Republican Congress running against (and almost defeating) incumbent Ric Keller in the 2008 election. Since then, he hosted a radio show on 540 WFLA, The Conservative Comeback, featuring pro-life and other conservative leaders as he continued to fight for our Christian values.

He recently wrote a book The Conservative Comeback ( just delivered to 30,000 Republican primary voters) which set forth solutions to our national challenges based on our Christian values and limited government principles

Todd is also the only candidate in the race that has proposed specific solutions to our national challenges which he sets forth in his book. These include: the FairTax, a 12-point plan to balance the federal budget, free-market healthcare reforms, measures like E-Verify to help end illegal immigration, and economic growth policies which will create jobs and provide retirement security for our seniors. He also has term limited himself and will fight for term limits, to reform our broken Congress.

On June 12th, Todd led an historic rally at the Phoenix State Capitol to fight against illegal immigration and to show support for Arizona, which culminated a series of rallies he led in Orlando, Houston and Las Cruces. He has received the endorsements of Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona, as well as Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity’s favorite constitutional conservative, Rep. Steve King (Iowa) and Steve Strang publisher of Charisma, the nation’s premier Christian publisher.

Todd also led a Religious Freedom Rally in Orlando to support some critical legislation needed to preserve our rights as Christians to speak out in public forums i.e., prayer in schools and enabling legislation for a Florida constitutional amendment to allow Christian parents to receive vouchers or tax credits for their children to attend a faith based school rather than a public school.

Finally, Todd fought alongside Rep. Michele Bachmann in Washington, D.C., against the Democrats’ healthcare bill and with our doctors in the Million Med March.

As a result of his passionate fight and the specific solutions Todd has set forth, a Zogby Poll gave Todd a double-digit lead in the Republican Primary.

These are some of the reasons I am supporting Todd Long for Congress in the Republican primary on August 24th.

  1. Erasmus says:

I just wish someone else took him seriously. Alan Grayson won’t… I ask myself every day what could possibly possess a man with all of Todd’s terrible moral and family history to keep running when we need him to be a community leader, which he can do based on his terrific advocacy of conservative ideas, not a congressional one, which requires a good record.

  3. Kelsey Russo says:

I love how judgemental all thhese so-called Christians are. Todd does not have a “terrible” family or moral history. Erasmus you don’t know Todd or his family. Todd is a great husband and a great father, I know these things because I know Todd and , unlike you, I’ve spent time with him and his family. Todd Is a sinner, and he has made mistakes. I’m sure Erasmus is without sin, that must be nice! Why don’t you let God judge Todd’s sins and instead of being a character assasin why don’t you challenge him on his ideas and solutions?

  4. Orlando Voter says:

I do not speak for Erasmus, but I do not want a Congressman who gropes women who are not his wife and passes out drunk http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/news_politics/2008/08/todd-longs-lega.html
It is not character attack, it is getting the truth to the voters. Cause the voters dont want a drunk for a Congressmen either

  5. Kelsey Russo says:

Orlando Voter, you are spreading a lie. I don’t know if you are doing it on purpose or if you are just ignorant but Todd Long has never been accused of groping women that aren’t his wife. Nowhere in the article you linked to does it say that Todd groped anyone and Ric Keller used everything there was to use in 2008. If you have proof that Todd was “groping” women who aren’t his wife produce it. Otherwise, stop spreading lies about people and let’s see you challange Todd on his ideas. Let’s hear you defend Kurt Kelly’s Internet sales tax bill (HM 157) http://www.myfloridahouse.gov/Sections/Documents/loaddoc.aspx?FileName=_h0157__.docx&DocumentType=Bill&BillNumber=0157&Session=2010
or let’s hear you defend his SunRail vote. Tell us why Kurt Kelly doesn’t even mention the FairTax on his website. Explain to us how Bruce Odonnoghue plans to balance the budget. He says 10% cuts across the board but he doesn’t want to cut defence (of course), or Medicare, or Medicaid, or SS, or the Education Department…so what’s he going to cut? 1/3 of the budget is interest on our debt, 1/3 is Medicare\SS…he can’t cut the interest we owe, he says he won’t cut Medicare/SS, of the remaining $1 trillion dollars $900 billion is the defence budget that no one wants to cut http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/defense_budget_2010_3.html. That leaves about $100 billion to cut 10%. So we are going to balance the budget by cutting $10 billion a year? As always, when the career politicians can’t win in the arena of ideas they make up lies about people groping women.

  6. Richard Riker says:

There is no room in this election for comments like Orlando Voter and Erasmus are making. The candidate I support in this election is Patricia Sullivan. Her supporters support her with issue oriented facts, never raising her up by casting aspersions on others to push them down. Through out the campaign she has kept the bar both ethically and morally high.

  7. TomT says:

For the record, I have the responsibility of monitoring comments on Orlando Political Press. I try very hard not to get into a position of censoring the readers, after all, this is America. In fact, since we launched OPP over two months ago, I have censored exactly one comment.

Having said that, I have noticed the emergence of those with a far different tone than our normal readers. The typical civility that we have seen in the past is just not there. I understand that we are now in the homestretch of the primary, and I try real hard to exercise tolerance.

Is this new breed tied to individual campaigns, or is the passion beginning to emerge from staunch supporters? Either way, I have to sit at my computer lately and talk myself into approving some of the recent comments. All I can do at this point is to appeal to the inner decency of the readers, although, we all know that is a lost commodity for some.

Ever wonder why our government is such a mess…it’s a reflection of our society. When we start cleaning up our act as citizens, restoring honor and civility, I suspect government will follow right along.

Closing thought, Thomas Jefferson wrote of preferring the tempestuous sea of Liberty over the calm of despotism. It’s not always pretty, but God forbid the alternative…

  8. Orlando Voter says:

I apologize if this is not true but i have heard numerous people, who are very trusted say that.
But to get to ideas, Rep. Kelly just wanted to have taxes collected, this is a very logical thing to do. The law says that internet sales tax must be collected, but this bill was just to enforce it, similar to the Arizona bill that enforces the federal law. On SunRail, Marco Rubio voted on the earliest vote on Sun Rail, so does that mean that he is not a conservative? Also, I 4 would have to be widened and that would have cost ten, if not hundreds, of billions of dollars to buy the property along I 4, and then the cost to widen it just one lane on each side. That would be too expensive. I also plan on riding Sun Rail, with the parking at the new arena going to $20, i plan on riding Sun Rail to the game. Also, on Rep. Kelly’s website, it does say fair taxation, and i know from the few times that i have talked to him, that he supports the Fair Tax. He also said he wants to cut the budget by 1/3. I agree with what you said about O’Donoghue.

War On Women Can Be Fought At The Polls

By Kim Carroll

Women have the power. They take their right to vote seriously and show up at the polls in greater numbers than men according to the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University.

In 2008, 60.4 percent of eligible female voters cast their vote versus 55.7% of eligible males. According to the same study, more women are registered to vote than men, 66.6 million versus 63.5 million. Maybe that’s why the “War on Women” has taken a front seat in this election…

The Interest Bomb Is Ticking

By: George Noga

This post kicks off a three-part series about the crisis of spending, debt and deficits.

The next part deals with the interval between now and the inevitable arrival of the Minsky Moment, i.e. the unknown and unknowable time when an unsustainable economic phenomenon suddenly collapses.

The third post will address Gotterdammerung, or what happens after the Minsky Moment.

Is Mack Campaign Getting Desperate?

By Tom Tillison

It’s a fair guess that Connie Mack has seen some recent polling that has gotten his attention.

As the week closed out, the rhetoric coming from the Mack campaign took on a rather fervent pitch. In a press release sent out Thursday, it made the claim that opponent George LeMieux has “endorsed raising Florida’s sales tax to a nation-leading 16 percent.”

Obama’s IPAB Death Panels Limit More Than Just Health Care Access

By L. Persona

Florida Democrats believe they can win a few Republican seats in Congress and are preparing a major offensive against several Republicans facing tough challenges this year. They believe that redistricting gives them a chance to offset the seats they are sure to give up.

However, the Democrats still fail to realize the albatross that ObamaCare places on their party’s efforts…

A Black Guy At The Dallas, TX Tea Party Rally

By Lloyd Marcus

A big well dressed black guy attended the Dallas, TX tea party rally with his white buddy. Both men missed my singing performance on stage minutes earlier.

I asked the black gentleman who had an impressive physique how often he worked out. He replied, “Everyday.” His white buddy said with a chuckle, “He thinks the Tea Party is racist.”
