Too Late For Daniel Webster?

Is Webster Out of Time?

Is Webster Out of Time?

By Jesse Phillips

I thought I take a break from watching the compelling NBA playoffs to jot down some thoughts on Daniel Webster’s decision to enter the race.

Side note: for those of you who are starting to tire of my constant references to sports, get over it. I’m a guy, which means that there are really only two things that matter in life: sports and politics. Then again, I am a heterosexual (married) male in my mid-twenties, so make that three things that really matter.

Here’s my concern about Webster. I don’t want to rain on the party of all his supporters, but I’m concerned he entered the race too late. Todd Long has been at this a long time and seems to have tremendous Tea Party support. Bruce O’Donoghue seems to be raising a lot of money. Where does that leave Daniel Webster? Perhaps if he had entered earlier, more of the religious subset of the Tea Party movement would have held out before jumping behind Long, and more of the  establishment might have waited before backing O’Donoghue.

I could be wrong, but it seems a number of key individuals would love to support Webster, but because of his delay, have already lent support to other candidates.

Don’t get me wrong. Webster will be able to garner tremendous support, and will be a force to be reckoned with. In the end, I think this could break well for Todd Long. Because of how early he announced his campaign, and his Tea Party credibility, his campaign is not as dependent on the larger money sources. Webster could end up helping Long by depleting some donors who would have otherwise backed O’Donoghue. It will be fascinating to see how this plays out.

In the end, we have three good candidates. My hope is that these fine gentlemen will run a clean, positive primary campaign, so that there is no lack of support for the victor. The last thing we need is for mudslinging among friends to hurt our chances at accomplishing the ultimate goal: kicking Grayson out of office.

    Where is Dan Webster?
Why does he prefer not to appear at forums that have questions?
    What is he afraid of?
Has anyone asked him about the taxes and tolls him imposed on Orlando?
What about all the taxpayer money he spent on the American Express card for smooties and Moes?

    Come on people- wake up!

  2. TinMan says:

All I say…Alan Grayson would devourer Dan “no-show” Webster in a debate.

  3. Orlando Girl says:

What happened on the radio the other day? The disjockey ask Webster to leave.
See he gets it- Webster has not been truthful about his origin to not run and then at the last minute change his mind to run for Congress.
Was Jeb Bush and the other career politicians behind Webster change of mind? Is Webster a puppet to Jeb Bush like so many others?
I’m sick of the old political machine that Webster represents. 28 years is tooooooo long.

  4. Orlando Girl says:

Kurt Kelly was terrific at the Tea Party event last night. The difference between Kurt and the other candidates was evident. One of the security guys, came up to me and said -” wow, that Kelly is great-I’m impressed”.

If you want to see the video and see the difference for yourself, go to the video at the Orlando sentinel.com.

What is up with Webster? Why can’t he answer a simple question about term limits? All he does is bring up 20 years ago. Webster- you maybe a nice guys but you have no fire to take on Grayson.

Kurt Kelly is the ONLY that can beat Grayson.
Kurt- I have already voted for you and are bringing my friends to do the same.I can’t wait to see what you will do in D.C.

  5. Pastor Steve says:

Well, I suppose the liberals above have learned a valuable lesson in life, that being, when you speak of a political opponents and probable outcomes, speak in generalities. This race where Daniel Webster won allowed history to repeat itself. It surely demonstrated that a family man (or woman) with a good reputation and good record of experience in office as a legistator, could enter late and win. The second noteworthy and documented FACT is that WE THE PEOPLE stood up and spoke out against liberlism, lies, falsehoods and just plain nasty politics. This country was founded by very intelligent and great men, most of them Pastors or having a strong Christian belief. We, the majority of Americans are noted and documented in survey after survey as Christians, and we are tired of anti-christian values and christianity being attacked by liberals….Period….Good article Jesse, Blessings to all, and as always, stay safe.

War On Women Can Be Fought At The Polls

By Kim Carroll

Women have the power. They take their right to vote seriously and show up at the polls in greater numbers than men according to the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University.

In 2008, 60.4 percent of eligible female voters cast their vote versus 55.7% of eligible males. According to the same study, more women are registered to vote than men, 66.6 million versus 63.5 million. Maybe that’s why the “War on Women” has taken a front seat in this election…

The Interest Bomb Is Ticking

By: George Noga

This post kicks off a three-part series about the crisis of spending, debt and deficits.

The next part deals with the interval between now and the inevitable arrival of the Minsky Moment, i.e. the unknown and unknowable time when an unsustainable economic phenomenon suddenly collapses.

The third post will address Gotterdammerung, or what happens after the Minsky Moment.

Is Mack Campaign Getting Desperate?

By Tom Tillison

It’s a fair guess that Connie Mack has seen some recent polling that has gotten his attention.

As the week closed out, the rhetoric coming from the Mack campaign took on a rather fervent pitch. In a press release sent out Thursday, it made the claim that opponent George LeMieux has “endorsed raising Florida’s sales tax to a nation-leading 16 percent.”

Obama’s IPAB Death Panels Limit More Than Just Health Care Access

By L. Persona

Florida Democrats believe they can win a few Republican seats in Congress and are preparing a major offensive against several Republicans facing tough challenges this year. They believe that redistricting gives them a chance to offset the seats they are sure to give up.

However, the Democrats still fail to realize the albatross that ObamaCare places on their party’s efforts…

A Black Guy At The Dallas, TX Tea Party Rally

By Lloyd Marcus

A big well dressed black guy attended the Dallas, TX tea party rally with his white buddy. Both men missed my singing performance on stage minutes earlier.

I asked the black gentleman who had an impressive physique how often he worked out. He replied, “Everyday.” His white buddy said with a chuckle, “He thinks the Tea Party is racist.”
